Sufjan and Sewing

A while ago I was looking through my closet (which, actually is my brother's closet, cause I don't have one.:|), and I came across this pretty little brown dress that my friend Seraiah gave to me quite a few months ago. I hadn't ever worn it before, due to the fact that people are incapable of making modest dresses anymore, and the neck line was to low. So, I hung it back in the closet and told myself I'd think of a way to fix it later. So the other day I was cleaning out my room, and I came upon a bag of old shirts that don't fit anymore. And inside was a nice little blue shirt, elbow length sleeves, with lace lining the bottom, that my friend Hannah gave me a while ago and I never wore cause it was too small. So, a little lightbulb appeared above my head and I thought "oh! this would go great with my brown dress!" So, today after school I turned on some Sufjan Stevens, cut the blue shirt up, and sewed some pieces into the brown dress, and a nice modest dress appeared. I then noticed I had a lot of extra fabric from the shirt, so from that I made a little head band and some glove/wrist warmer thingies(same style that Alice wears in the new Alice in Wonderland movie ^_^). I hate it when my room is messy, but I kinda like it when it's covered in fabric, a sewing machine, and thread. (Though, I prefer not to have needles or pins. I did discover earlier that the best way to find a missing needle is by stepping on it and getting it stuck in your foot)

(headband,glove, and dress)

The picture is kind of bad due to horrible lighting and a not very good camera. Tonight I'm gonna look on Ebay and other sites to see if I can find one to buy. I'm getting a bit impatient. Sometime this week I'll get one though.
Hopefully.

Does anyone know any creative ways to turn old shirts into new ones, or something else? I have a bunch of shirts that are too small that I absolutely love the picture or whatever on them, so I hate to give them away. Any ideas?
(I like how I write this as if people actually read these. :P)

Blogging and Art and cameras! oh my!

So, as I'm sure no one's noticed, I haven't blogged in a while. Which, I guess is okay, since, no one reads these. But, from Deviantart(amazing art site), I've been sent a few different photographers blogs. So, I started following them, and they made me want to write more. So, here I am! I thought maybe I could post on here mostly things about my art, and photography. Seeing as those are my loves.
Right now, concerning paintings and what-not, I was just in an art show. It was for a big Health and Wellness Expo in East Texas, and they had a little art show for kids from some odd age to tenth grade. The paintings were judged on what went best with the theme... which, mine really didn't go at all.

"Blush of Spring"

I got an honorable mention, and my painting is going to be featured in some art gallery in Austin! Super exciting! I also have a chance of getting my painting featured on the cover, or inside of the yellowpages again! Though, I won't lie, I was a little bummed not to win any money or what-not. I was really wanting at least a little to help me buy a new camera (which, I'll talk about in a moment). Once the award show was over and I was sitting down thinking, this lady came and sat next to me. She told me something along the lines of "You're painting is really great. The judges didn't know how it went with the theme, but it was painted so well, and looks so beautiful, you had to be a winner", which was pretty much a huge compliment. I'm not sure who that lady was, but she really made my whole week. Maybe I'm over reacting, maybe it's not as amazing as a compliment as I think. But oh well. It excites me. I'm really looking forward to learning more about painting, and being able to use the talent God's given me better. He's given me so many great opportunities concerning my painting lately. It's so exciting! (:

Now.. Camera. So, since July 2009, my little fuji film camera has been duct taped together, and doesn't have zoom. So, FINALLY, I'm buying a new one. I think in the next few days I should be able to order it. I have a feeling I'm gonna go a little crazy once I finally get it. Probably take about a million pictures a day for the first week or two. I really can't express how excited I am. I've been wanting one for so long! It's going to be hard having a larger camera that I can't just stick in a little pocket in my purse and take everywhere with me, but the quality will be so much better! I already have tons of ideas going through my head. Different photoshoots I want to do with friends, and some cool still life photos. I can't wait!

A stupid blog that most likely shouldn't have been published

So, I'm sure once you read this you'll probably wonder a bit about me, and think I very possibly need to find a better way to spend my time. And that I should, at all costs, try to avoid this whole thinking thing.

Well, today I sat down for a minute, and somehow my thoughts went off in to strange places, and I have absolutely no idea how they got there. My first few thoughts went something like this: Why are bed rooms called bedrooms? Why are bathrooms called bathrooms? Why are living rooms called living rooms? and as long as we're following this whole thing, why are kitchens not called fridgerooms?
Why did they choose for a bathroom to be called a bathroom? Why did they not call it the toiletroom? I'm pretty sure every bathroom I've ever seen has a toilet in it, but not every bathroom has a bath. It makes little sense to me.
(also, they have the other name. Restroom. Has anyone ever gone in there to rest? That would definitely not be the first place I would choose to go if I needed a nap, or just wanted to rest for a while.)

Now, not much is to be said of the bedroom. I don't even know why I mentioned it. The name makes sense to me, because, almost every bedroom does have a bed in it, as to where it doesn't always have any other certain object in it.

But! The living room. Now that, I don't understand. For as long as I've been alive, I have lived in EVERY room of a house. Not just the living room. Is the living room more alive than the kitchen? or a closet? I don't think so. I just don't think I'll ever understand this stuff.

Now, we get to the kitchen. You have to wonder, why was it not named like almost all the other rooms of the house? Why is it not called a fridgeroom, or an ovenroom, or microwaveroom? is the kitchen better than the other rooms? So, it has a name far superior to the others? Or, maybe it's the other way around. Perhaps it is inferior to the rest of the rooms in the house, and it was not worthy of having such a name as "stoveroom". I'm thinking it's probably the first option- being superior to the others. The kitchen is where all the food and drink is, which, obviously we would be dead without. I think it is more worthy of the name "livingroom", than the livingroom is, because, without the kitchen and all the wonderful food and drink and happiness which it holds, we would not be living. We could surely live without the things that most livingrooms have, such as TVs, or couches, or nice arearugs. So why is it called livingroom, and not the kitchen?

I do believe that something was wrong with the people who came up with these names. Perhaps they were all drunk, or they've never been taught anything before. I can't say. But, I think it's all silly.
